Corfu is an extremely special place to me as it’s where I also got married to my lovely wife back in 2024! I first fell in love with the Island after photographing a beautiful destination wedding in San Stefanos in 2018 for the wonderful Suze & James, where I first worked alongside Sally from Just Married Corfu, who was just incredible in organising everything for our wedding, I was super excited to be working alongside her again for Catherine & George’s wedding!
Pre-Wedding Get Together at Imabari, Corfu Old Town
Celebrations kicked off with a gorgeous evening get-together at the lovely Imabari, next to Faliraki Beach in Corfu Old Town, with stunning views of the harbour and old fortress. It was super chilled and a lovely chance to get to meet everyone ahead of the wedding day! I felt extremely welcomed immediately and knew the celebrations would be brilliant!
Bridal and Groom Preparations
As I was staying in the Old Town, it was easy to walk between some super chilled groom prep with George and his groomsmen, and some fun bridal preparations overlooking the old fortress - and what a view!
Greek Orthadox Wedding Ceremony at Holy Church of Kyra Phaneromeni - Virgin Mary of the Foreigners
It’s tradition for the bridal party to walk to the church and meet the groom outside which was SO much fun to photograph! Catherine and her bridal party walked along the Liston through crowds of applauding people coming out of shops and restaurants to catch a glimpse as the Greek musicians serenaded them along the streets. Waiting outside was George, holding Catherine’s bouquet. It was such a lovely moment to witness them seeing one another for the first time on their wedding day before heading into the church together with their guests following behind.
The ceremony itself was incredible! It was in ancient Greek but also being live translated into English which was wonderful, it incorporated lots of traditional elements as well as some more modern parts, everyone thoroughly enjoyed it, myself included!
After this lovely ceremony, guests waited outside with handfuls of rice to shower the couple as they exited to a big cheer! I quickly set up a big group shot of everyone, and when doing a big cheer for them, the pigeons that had descended to clear up the rice took off, making a cracking shot mid-flight!
Wedding photography couple portraits in Corfu Old Town
We had a lovely chilled walk from the church through the streets of the Old Town for a fun and relaxed couple photoshoot, with locals calling out their congratulations and best wishes as we went. We headed towards the Municipal Gallery gardens to finish with beautiful views over the harbour in the sunshine!
Wedding Reception at Danilia Village Corfu
A short drive over to Danilia Village for George & Catherine’s wedding reception followed, and what a place it was! Sally had told me beforehand how awesome it would be and she was absolutely right! It was a quaint and private traditional Greek village setting, with long tables set out waiting for everyone’s arrival. George & Catherine made an epic entrance with a live saxophonist too, which immediately brought high energy and great vibes!
Loads of mingling of and candids meant I was in my element, documenting everyone having the best time. The couple drizzled honey over some local Greek sweet treats to mark their arrival which was brilliant, the groomsmen were set the task of sourcing these local baked good fresh on the morning of the wedding and fair play to them they pulled it off perfectly.
Heartfelt speeches in this stunning setting, and the most incredible Greek food was really special and very much gave me many “I love my job” moments.
The evening was equally high energy, George’s uncle gave us some wonderful live music and the band that followed was simply incredible! Having your wedding dancefloor as the street in the middle of a village made it feel like they had an entire town to themselves rather than just a wedding venue, it was unlike any setting I’ve ever photographed!
I can’t thank George & Catherine enough for booking me as their destination wedding photographer for Corfu, and for being so welcoming and fun to work with, to Sally for being an absolute powerhouse of a wedding planner in Corfu and to Helen from Break Every Chain on Video for being lush to work alongside!
